- The Impact of Israel’s Attacks on Iran’s Foreign and Defence Policies
Author: Kibala
Synopsis Israel’s recent killing of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders and missile attacks on Tehran have made Iran’s dialogue with the West problematic and forced Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to seek closer relations with Russia, China and the Gulf States. The failure of Iran’s strategy of forward defence, as shown in its inability to fend off the Israeli attacks, may compel Iran to acquire a nuclear arsenal earlier. This could derail its hard-won relations with the Gulf States and complicate its desired rapprochement with the West. Commentary Since July 2024, Iran’s policy community has experienced unprecedented events, including the assassinations of…
A follow-up report issued recently by the UN General Assembly’s Human Rights Council assails Tajikistan’s government for failing to implement recommendations contained in an earlier survey concerning atrocities committed during the country’s civil war in the mid-1990s. The follow-up report relates to a mission conducted in 2019 by UN researchers intent on promoting the closure of old societal wounds left by the civil war. Among that mission’s recommendations was the establishment of a “a truth-seeking State policy” and the development of “specific mechanisms, supported by dedicated resources, for dealing with disappearances caused by and related to the civil war.” The Tajik civil war…
Dubai/Astana (10 June – 60). The Pamiris are an ethnic minority group in Tajikistan, culturally distinct from the majority Tajik population. They have faced persecution and discrimination in their mountain homeland bordering Afghanistan that some experts say amounts to ethnic cleansing and even genocide. One of the lead persecutors is Ministry of Internal Affairs “Maj. Gen.” Shorukh Syedzada, a former football team manager with no law enforcement experience and a confidante of the president’s son and heir designate. The Pamiris continue to be marginalized and oppressed by the authorities. As a result, many Pamiris have been forced to flee their…
In a high-level Ankara meeting on Tuesday, the Turkish and Iraqi foreign ministers discussed steps to speed up the implementation of the Development Road project between the two countries, said the joint statement issued after the meeting. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, accompanied by senior military and security officials from both countries, met in the Turkish capital for talks on various bilateral and regional issues, including anti-terror fight, security and water issues. They underlined that regional security, stability and prosperity will be possible through progress in areas of cooperation such as trade, investment, transportation,…
It has been more than a month since Israel launched its forceful ethnic cleansing campaign in Gaza in response to the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation initiated by the Palestinian resistance. Since then, the occupying state has been repeating its fabrications and misinformation, not only to rationalise its actions in Gaza but also to garner global sympathy, painting itself as a victim while escalating attacks against innocent Palestinians. Of particular concern are Israel’s justifications for targeting hospitals in Gaza, which are serving as shelters for displaced individuals, and its persistent efforts to depict Palestinian resistance fighters as terrorists – a narrative Israel…
Throughout the Israeli bombardment of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the US has taken a staunchly pro-Israel stance and provided extensive military and diplomatic support. Washington has authorised the sale to Israel of cutting-edge F-35 fighter jets, considered the most advanced in the world, and they have been used in air strikes on Gaza. At the time of writing, 13,300 Palestinians have been killed, including 5,600 children and 3,550 women. More than 275,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed, and Israel has targeted hospitals, places of worship and other civilian infrastructure. According to the Nation, Israel “still relies heavily on…
What is happening in the Mediterranean has brought back bad memories in Arab minds. America, with the help of Britain, France and Germany, the historical enemies of Arabs, has formed a Western coalition to back Israel. Huge armies have been brought to the region under the pretext of facing Hamas, including aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. These colonial powers colonised most of the Arab world less than a century ago, and destroyed Iraq and Afghanistan. The Arab public, in general, has long lost faith in international and regional organisations, as they have seen them helpless in front of all destructive…
He is the most dangerous leader in the world today. An unhinged psychopath in charge of nuclear weapons who has spent a lifetime dehumanising his enemy, and dismissing them and their children as animals. Instead of being condemned by the so-called civilised world, however, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is being supported and defended even though — or perhaps because — he is committing war crimes against the Palestinian people. Watch his performance on this video . This is a man erupting with toxic hubris who will never recover from the public humiliation delivered to him by Hamas fighters last weekend. Zionist keyboard warriors…
Two American officials announced this morning that the US army thwarted a drone attack targeting its forces at the Ain Al-Asad base in Iraq hours after the Baptist Hospital massacre in the Gaza Strip, which sparked anger across the Arab world. Reuters quoted American officials, who requested anonymity, that American forces intercepted two drones before they reached their target at the base, which is the most prominent US base in Iraq. The two officials refused to reveal who they suspected carried out the attack. The attack came at a time when Washington raised its alert level in anticipation of attacks from…
A “secret” two-day visit by the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), General Esmail Qaani, to Syria on 15 October and later to Iraq suggest Iran might not use Lebanon as a base to respond to Israel’s attacks, Iranian and Iraqi sources said yesterday according to the Arab Post website. The aims of Qaani’s visit to Damascus was to raise the state of alert to the maximum for Iran’s allies in Syria, and establish a joint operations room in both Syria and Iraq to monitor the current situation and coordinate the deployment of forces. Security…
