The Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein, discussed on Thursday the issue of Iraqi immigrants and refugees on the Polish-Belarusian border with the Russian Ambassador to Iraq, Elbrus Kotrashev, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
The statement mentioned that the meeting addressed the bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance prospects for cooperation in all fields, to serve the mutual interests of the people of both countries.
Hussein and Kotrashev talked about the latest developments in region, and stressed the need to ease tensions and rely on dialogue to solve the outstanding issues in order to establish peace in the region, the statement clarified.
Hussein emphasized the importance of reaching understandings regarding the issue of the Russian-Ukrainian war as its repercussions which affect the global security in general, and food and energy security in particular, the statement explained.
Both sides discussed the issue of Iraqi immigrants stuck on the Polish-Belarusian border, the statement elaborated.
The Iraqi minister also indicated that the Iraqi government took serious steps to facilitate the return of Iraqi citizens wishing to come back to Iraq, the statement added.
